it's difficult to beat lying around in a hammock (or
three even!)view down the driveway to La Sauvetat -
the nearest village

'La Tombe' is a 200 year old local stone farmhouse, sitting right on top of a hill in 2 hectares of land, and looking out over wonderful views which change constantly as the sun moves across the sky. The house is isolated, but if you look carefully you can just about make out farmers working their fields in the land around. Behind is a small wood, home to many varieties of birds and animals, and beyond that is a spectacular view of the Pyrenees. I bought the farmhouse some 17 years ago, it was an impulse purchase inspired by my great love of France, yet it has proven to be the most meaningful home that I have ever owned. I simply can't describe the pleasure to be had in relaxing to the sound of cicadas whilst grilling a magret de canard on the barbecue, or watching the shooting stars in an almost unbelievably clear summer sky. The whole spirit of the place is quite wonderful, indeed I love the place so much that I have changed my life and I now live here, in the adjoining barn which I am converting into a very environmentally-friendly home.

'La Tombe' is so called because in the C14th, the Seigneur who owned all the surrounding land, chose to be buried on top of the hill, the better to look out over his property, (but don't worry, there doesn't seem to be any sign of him now!) The house also has an orchard, and a second house, (which I haven't done up yet - ah so many things to occupy time...) It's a painter's and photographer's paradise, indeed 'Lectoure', one of the local towns, has been named one of the official 'Centres de la photographie de la France.' (Of particular interest to me as I am a photographer.)
